3D - type 154 - Number Ball
The minigolf ball 3D - type 154 - Number Ball, manufactured by 3D, is a slow, medium-hard, and medium-weight standard ball with the following ball data:
- Rebound height (at 20 °C): 6.5 cm
- Hardness: 48 sh
- Weight: 44 g
- Size: small (K) (approx. Ø37.5 mm)
- Surface: Smooth varnish (L), Rough varnish (X) or Raw (R)
Playing characteristics
With a rebound height of 6.5 cm, the ball is classified as relatively slow and has a medium hardness of 48 sh. By warming the ball, it bounces higher and therefore rolls faster. Additionally, warming it makes it softer, causing it to bounce more off the sides. The weight of 44 g for the small ball is on the heavier side. The ball is available in three different surfaces: smooth varnish (L), rough varnish (X), or raw (R), which influence the rolling and side-bouncing behavior of the ball. When smoothly varnished, the ball rolls better than when roughly varnished. In the raw finish, the rolling behavior is the most sluggish due to the highest friction. For side-bouncing, the rough varnish is usually the most consistent. The smooth surface generally takes more spin than the rough varnished one. The raw ball takes the most spin when playing off the sides.
Possible uses
The ball can be used on all minigolf systems. These are the different courses and obstacles on classic minigolf systems where the ball could be used:
Minigolf System |
Course / Obstacle |
| Minigolf (Concrete): | Course 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 14, 15, 17 (KL/KX) |
| Miniature Golf (Eternit): | Kidney (KL), Loop (KL/KX/KR), Window (KL), Killer (KL), Straight Shot with and without bars (KL), Hubcaps (KL), Passage (KL/KX/KR), Salto (KL/KX/KR) |
| Felt Golf: | Örkel (KL), Mail Slot (KL), long straight courses (KL), long straight courses in humid conditions (KX), raw balls are rarely used on felt. |
| Adventure Golf: |
On courses where good rolling behavior with a slow ball is desired (KL). In humid conditions or when a more consistent side bounce or slightly slower rolling behavior is desired (KX). Raw balls are rarely played on Adventure Golf systems (KR). |
| Minigolf Open Standards (Others): |
On courses where good rolling behavior with a slow ball is desired (KL). In humid conditions or when a more consistent side bounce or slightly slower rolling behavior is desired (KX). When a more aggressive side-bouncing behavior is desired (KR). |
*Note: The information is for inspiration only. Since courses and obstacles vary, no general recommendations can be made. The ball may also work well on other courses – depending on creativity and playing style.
The story behind the ball
The "3D type" number balls were developed and manufactured by the minigolf production company 3D in Austria. The numbering follows a system that allows balls to be categorized by their properties. Each of the three numbers represents a categorization of three different properties in the following order: rebound height (0–9), hardness (2–7), weight (1–6). The higher the first number, the faster the ball. The higher the second number, the harder the ball. The higher the third number, the heavier the ball. Accordingly, the 3D type 154 number ball can be classified as slow, medium-hard, and medium-weight.
Suitable for
All skill levels: beginners, hobby players, and professional players.
Ball care
To better preserve the ball's surface, the ball should not be touched with greasy, dirty, or very sweaty hands. To keep the ball's surface smooth, the ball (KL/KX) can be rubbed on a smooth piece of fabric, e.g., on a T-shirt surface or a towel. The raw ball (KR) should not be rubbed on a T-shirt.
